Dr. Nisreen Zahda is a Palestinian architect and virtual reality artist based in Tokyo. Born in Hebron, she spent her late teens living beside the infamous Checkpoint 56 — a potent symbol of Israeli occupation and its tools of control and surveillance over Palestinian people — where daily life for her family was marked by constant restrictions and harassments. During the Second Intifada, she worked with UNRWA assessing the destruction of Palestinian homes caused by Israeli attacks.
Dr. Zahda studied architecture at Birzeit University and earned a PhD in urban planning from Chiba University in Japan. As a third generation refugee herself, she draws deeply on personal memory and collective displacement in her research and creative work. In 2020, she founded VRJ Palestine, a virtual archive that reconstructs erased Palestinian villages, reclaiming space, memory, and identity through immersive digital resistance.

Abubaker Abed is a Palestinian journalist from Deir el-Balah, Gaza. Originally aspiring to become a sports journalist and commentator, Abed describes himself as an “accidental war correspondent” whose career trajectory shifted dramatically with the onset of Israel’s genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people.
Over the past two years, Abed’s reports have served as a critical window into Gaza, offering firsthand accounts that challenge mainstream narratives and provide a nuanced understanding of the conflict’s impact on individuals and communities. His work not only informs but also engages the international community in the plight of Gaza’s residents, pushing for empathy, action, and a reevaluation of the conflict’s portrayal in global media.

Independent news on politics and war. Founded by Ryan Grim, Jeremy Scahill, and veterans of The Intercept.
Drop Site News is a non-aligned, nonprofit investigative news organization launched in July 2024. The outlet combats authoritarianism worldwide and exposes the crimes of the powerful, with particular focus on overt and secret conflicts involving the U.S. government.
Specializing in Middle East coverage, Drop Site’s mission is to continually pair its journalists with reporters and news outlets in nations in the crosshairs of war and crisis, augmenting and amplifying their on-the-ground experience with reporting on the backrooms of power. Founded partly in response to Israel’s war on Gaza and mainstream media’s inadequate coverage of the atrocities, Drop Site operates free from corporate and government influence.
Drop Site is dedicated to reporting the difficult stories others won’t touch, building community, fostering discourse, and holding the powerful accountable.
